Cobb Pinot Noir Coastlands Vineyard Old Firs Block 2012

    • Tasting Notes

Winemaker's notes: A complex and alluring wine with aromas of black cherry, orange blossom licorice, peppermint and Asian spices. With firm, mouth-filling tannins and bright acidity, this wine has the structure for a long life.

    • The Vineyard

Located adjacent to a stand of 275-year-old Douglas trees, the Old Firs Block of our Coastlands Vineyards features our oldest Pinot Noir vines. Planted back in 1989, before Dijon clones were available in California, this special block features three wonderful clones: Wadenswil 2A and Martini 13 and 15. Grown at the very top of Coastlands, at an elevation of 1,200 feet, in deep rich soils, these selections produce a rich, intense wine with enticing spice and savory herb notes.

    • Accolades

94 Points - Vinous - The 2012 Pinot Noir Coastlands Vineyard Old Firs Block is the richest and most powerful of these Pinots. A wine of considerable density, that boasts tremendous power and breadth, especially within the context of the house style. Hints of reduction remain, but at the same time, the 2012 has the potential to develop into something truly special. Beams of salinity add energy to the dark red cherry and plum-inflected fruit.
