    • Tasting Notes

      Winemaker's notes: A very rich and powerful release from this prized block of Coastlands, with vivid fruit aromas of cherry, plum, spiced red apple and cassis. Secondary aromas offer Asian spices, white pepper and hints of bay laurel. Though the mouthfeel is explosive, the tannins are supple and the finish is long and complex. The best bottling of Cobb Wines to date for fans of more full-bodied Pinot Noirs.

    • The Vineyard

      Back in 1989, when Diane and David Cobb planted Coastlands, they were pioneers. There were few vineyards on the far Sonoma Coast, and very few varieties of Pinot Noir that had been proven capable of thriving in the cool coastal conditions. Working with UC Davis, Diane established a nursery block that contained over 20 Pinot Noir varieties. Today, these own-rooted, dry-farmed vines are some of the oldest in the region. Our “Diane Cobb” designate is a co-fermentation of approximately 18-20 different Pinot Noir selections from these cherished vines. Now in its seventh vintage, we used approximately 40% whole clusters to make our 2012 Diane Cobb, resulting in one of the most complex and spicy expressions of this wine ever.

Exotic spice, orange peel, sweet red plum and pine are some of the many notes that lift from the glass. Deeply expressive, pliant and super-expressive, the Diane Cobb is a total knock-out.

      A world apart from the 2011, and the winery’s most popular release, the 2012 Diane Cobb Pinot Noir spent 22 months in French oak, 40% new, and produced 225 cases. Bounding out of the glass is an ever-evolving nose of raspberry, kirsch, and kumquat, while black cherries and cardamom frame the palate and finish. It has the highest ABV of all Cobb's wines at 14.1%, but it is integrated nicely. A great introduction to this restrained winemaking style for drinkers accustomed to riper California Pinot Noir.
